Coach Suggests Heavy Tennis Balls Are Behind Raducanu’s Recent Struggles

Following Emma Raducanu’s second-round loss to Iga Swiatek at the 2025 French Open, her coach Mark Petchey attributed her struggles to the use of heavier tennis balls, claiming they hinder players who don’t naturally hit with power.

Petchey defended Raducanu’s work ethic and potential, pushing back on criticism stemming from her 2021 US Open win. He emphasized the game’s evolution since then, insisting Emma is in the early stages of building a long-term professional career.

Despite setbacks and a rotating cast of coaches, Petchey praised Raducanu’s commitment and daily effort. As she shifts focus to the grass court season, he affirmed his continued support through Wimbledon and beyond.
