Federica Brignone secured a crucial victory in the second Super-G at La Thuile, Italy, on March 14, edging out teammate Sofia Goggia by just 0.01 seconds. This win effectively clinched the overall FIS Alpine Skiing World Cup title for Brignone, who thrilled the home crowd with a composed and confident performance. Her triumph also pushed her into the lead of the Super-G standings ahead of Switzerland’s Lara Gut-Behrami, who finished fourth.

Brignone’s run was characterized by precision and speed, as she gained an early advantage in the first three sectors. Though she lost some momentum on the final jump, her time of 57.95 seconds was enough to hold off Romane Miradoli and a late challenge from Goggia. Gut-Behrami struggled in the third sector, dropping time and finishing tied for fourth, leaving Brignone with a narrow five-point lead in the discipline standings heading into the World Cup Final in Idaho.

With just three speed races remaining, Brignone’s lead in the overall standings has grown to 382 points, making it nearly impossible for Gut-Behrami to overtake her. For the Swiss skier to reclaim the title, she would need to enter and win a slalom event—an unlikely scenario. Meanwhile, Lindsey Vonn finished 13th, and Thursday’s winner, Emma Aicher, failed to complete her run. Brignone’s dominant season continues, bringing her closer to a well-deserved Crystal Globe.
