Charley Hull drew plenty of attention on Day 1 of the 2025 U.S. Women’s Open—not for her play or her well-known smoking habit, but for her visible frustration with the tournament’s slow pace, especially while grouped with Lexi Thompson and Nelly Korda.

Observers noted Hull’s impatience throughout the round, particularly on the first and final holes. She was spotted standing well ahead of her group on 18 as Thompson and Korda teed off. Social media lit up with clips and commentary suggesting Hull’s annoyance stemmed mainly from Thompson’s deliberate pace.

Hull has been vocal about slow play before, advocating harsh penalties like loss of a tour card after repeated infractions. While she didn’t comment post-round, her past stance made her reaction unsurprising. Hull and Korda finished with even-par 72s, just four shots off the early lead.
