The third round of The Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass saw strong winds challenge even the best golfers. Former World No. 1 Jordan Spieth, struggling to gain ground on the leaderboard, had an up-and-down round. After making five birdies and four bogeys through 15 holes, he found trouble on the 16th, where his approach shot landed in the water. Frustrated by the costly mistake, Spieth tossed his golf club, capturing the emotions of a tough day on the course.

Spieth’s attempt to recover from the setback didn’t go as planned. After taking a penalty drop, his fourth shot found a greenside bunker. He then chipped out but missed his bogey putt, ultimately settling for a double bogey. He finished the round with even-par scores on the final two holes, ending the day at 1-over par. This dropped his overall tournament standing from 4-under to 2-under, making his chances of contention more difficult heading into the final round.

After the round, Spieth admitted his frustration got the best of him. Reflecting on the club toss, he acknowledged that it wasn’t a “good move” and blamed a combination of the wind and his own mistakes. Spieth, who also struggled with wayward shots earlier in the tournament, remains focused on finishing strong. With the final round approaching, he’ll need a steady performance to secure a top-25 finish at The Players Championship.
