Jordan Spieth responds to U.S. Open criticism: ‘It’s just tough golf, nothing unfair’

Jordan Spieth has weighed in on the formidable challenge of Oakmont ahead of the 125th U.S. Open, maintaining there’s “no funny business” in the course’s setup. The venue’s punishing layout has already drawn mixed reactions from players.

Oakmont’s notorious rough and lightning-fast greens are central to this year’s difficulty. The U.S. Golf Association confirmed the rough is uniformly five inches deep, with greens nearing 15 on the stimpmeter, promising a stern test of skill and composure.

Despite inevitable debates about fairness, Spieth supports the setup, calling it “pure golf.” He insists players who execute well will be rewarded, while poor shots will pay the price—hallmarks, he says, of a true U.S. Open.
