Scottie Scheffler Falls Short of Three-Peat at The PLAYERS, Sparking Bold Phil Mickelson Take.

Phil Mickelson made headlines during a rain delay at The PLAYERS Championship by stirring controversy on social media. After facing criticism for his take on Joaquín Niemann, Mickelson shifted his focus to World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, questioning whether the dominant golfer would secure a victory before the 2025 Ryder Cup.

CBS Sports analyst Trevor Immelman quickly responded, calling Mickelson’s statement “scalding” and expressing confidence that Scheffler would win before the international competition. While Immelman remained diplomatic, Mickelson’s remarks sparked debate, as Scheffler, despite a strong start to 2025, has yet to claim a title this season.

Scheffler, a 13-time PGA Tour winner, last triumphed at the Hero World Challenge in December 2024. Though he fell short of a three-peat at TPC Sawgrass, his consistency remains impressive. Mickelson’s bold prediction may seem unlikely, but if his aim was to grab attention, the six-time major champion succeeded once again.
