The last opportunity that Lindsey Vonn has to compete before the Winter Olympics was terminated on the side, but the American great says she is not dead yet regarding her Olympic dreams.

The 41-year-old withdrew on Saturday, the World Cup super-G in Crans-Montana, following a major crash on the eve which had injured her knee. This was her final planned race before the Milan cortina games, but Vonn and her team declare that the Olympics are still going on.

Cortina Vonn personal coach, Chris Knight reported to the Associated Press that Vonn is training to Cortina as normal. Vonn herself confirmed the decision on Instagram just before the race, in which she supported her teammates and thanked the fans.

Unluckily, I do not have enough time to race today, Vonn wrote. Best wishes to all my race mates. And thank you so much to all the love and support it means everything to me. Doing my best right now.”

The fright occurred in the downhill of Friday when Vonn lost her grip after making a jump in the top part of the course. As it fell and the visibility went, she turned into the safety netting. She became the sixth skier to descend a course that had already had a number of crashes and the race was called off altogether.

A slope allowed Vonn to receive treatment and then she was able to get back on her skis and walk slowly to the finish line. She was using her poles for support, she gave her left knee preference, and would halt several times, evidently suffering.

Vonn later in the day mentioned that she was scheduled to undergo additional medical tests and it was evident that she is not ready to abandon the Olympic dream.

She posted on Instagram that she crashed today during the downhill race in Switzerland and hurt her left knee. I am talking to my physicians and staff about the situation and am going to take additional exams. It is an extremely hard position just 7 days to the Olympics, but there is one thing I know how to do, and that is a comeback. My Olympic dream is not over.”

At the base of the hill Vonn embraced briefly with her teammate Jacqueline Wiles and hobbled into a medical tent. She was then flown off the site by helicopter- a common measure in alpine events and the U.S. Ski Team confirmed that she was under review.

As she feels some pain, it is time to perform some cheques, Aksel Lund Svindal, a two-time Olympic champion who is also on the coaching team of Vonn said. There were things that were acceptable, and there were things that we were not completely certain about, and it was only logical to have it confirmed in the hospital.

The time could hardly be more strained. The crash of vonn was just a week before the Milan Cortina Olympics opening, that she has been projected to be among the headline names of the sport. Her programme starts with the downhill females on the second day of the ceremony followed by super-G and team combined.

Vonn has already made a comeback to elite skiing that is already one of the highlights of the season. She returned to the sport expressly after a partially replaced right knee in April 2024, after taking a two-year hiatus in 2019 after being recurrently injured. She was the leader in the standings after winning twice and placing on the podium in all of her downhill races this winter with a titanium implant.

Cortina d Ampezzo, the female section of the Olympics of alpine skiing is also another happy hunting ground of Vonn as it has yielded 12 of the 84 World Cup wins in her career.

Nevertheless, the crash that happened on Friday tells of a new uncertainty. Vonn is not new to serious setbacks in injuries, as she sustained a severe injury to her knee at the 2013 world championships that disqualified her in 2014 Sochi Olympics. At present all we can do is hope that she makes it through the recovery – and whether one of the greatest champions in skiing can overcome the odds once again.
