And Sam Kerr and Kristie Mewis did not take long to celebrate their marriage after getting married on New Year eve that year, spending themselves on an extravagant mini honeymoon in the United Kingdom.
The newlywed couple flew off the knot in Australia and then drove to the rural Cotswolds, where they moved into the only place, the Estelle Manor, a five-star resort in Oxfordshire with night rates that may be about 2,400.
The couple had travelled the 90 minutes drive in London with their baby son, Jagger, and soon had fallen into complete relaxed mode. In an interview at Mewis Squared podcast, Kristie Mewis said her days involved good food, unlimited coffee and no hurry at all.
Dining since the getaway had several restaurants on its premises, it became a major aspect. They all had their way, Mewis confessed with them, and they spent three or four hours at a table. Breakfasts of a kind became protracted, leisurely. extending even to late morning with frequent orders of coffee, and fruit visits.
It is one of those places, you do not have to do anything, Mewis said. We simply sat, ate and had fun all day most of the time.
Even after the luxurious hiatus, Kerr is once again squarely back to football. The Matildas captain will certainly play a central role in Australia as it gears up to host the Asian cup which she won last in 2010 as a teenager.
In reflection of that victory, Kerr said it is like a lifetime ago and yesterday at the same time, how difficult the competition is and why another title is so valuable.
She is also experiencing the initial phases of a new dawn under coach Joe Montemurro and she has been so impressed by his distinct and easy approach to play and the impact he has when he is off the field. Kerr also contributed that the presence of an Australian in the helm has aided in the message sinking in the squad.
Australia will start Asian Cup with a match against the Philippines in Perth on March 1, and will then play against Iran in the Gold Coast on March 5 and South Korea on March 8 in their campaign before Kerr hopes to finish his great married life by picking up some silverware on the home soil.
